Patriot's Day
Patriot's Day is observed on the third Monday in April in Massachusetts and Maine. Its is a Civic Holiday commemorating the anniversary of the Battles of Concord and Lexington, The start of the American Revolution. Patriot's Day is not to be confused with Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance which was known as just Patriot Day until 2012.
The Boston Marathon occurs on Patriot's Day. The Boston Marathon is an annual marathon running event hosted by the city of Boston, Massachusetts, on Patriots' Day, the third Monday of April. It Began in 1897 and it is the world's oldest annual marathon and it is one of the world's most well-known road racing events. It is one of five members of the World Marathon Majors.
On Patriot's Day April 15, 2013, two pressure cooker bombs exploded during the Boston Marathon at 2:49 pm EDT, killing 3 people and injuring an estimated 264 others. The bombers, brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, were the subjects of an infamous manhunt ending with the death of Tamerlan and the capture of Dzhokhar. They were motivated by extremist Islamist beliefs
