Chinese believe drives away bad luck. Family members gather at each other's homes for extravagant meals. In China, it is known as "Spring Festival."  The festival begins on the first day of the first month  in the traditional Chinese calendar and ends with the Lantern Festival which is on the 15th day. the Chinese New Year is often referred to as the "Lunar New Year" since it is based on the Lunar calender.

In 2013, the Chineese New Year is on February 10th with the lantern festival on February 24th
In 2014, the Chineese New Year is on January 31st with the lantern festival on February 14th
In 2015, the Chineese New Year is on February 19th with the lantern festival on March 5th
In 2016, the Chineese New Year is on February 8th with the lantern festival on February 22nd
