Shavuot
Shavuot, also known as The Feast of Weeks or Pentecost is a Jewish holiday celebrated on the sixth and sometimes seventh day of the Hebrew month of Sivan. It is one of the Three Pilgrimage Festivals.
It is a celebration of the anniversary of the day God gave the Torah to the entire nation of Israel assembled at Mount Sinai. It marks the conclusion of the Counting of the Omer, and its date is directly linked to that of Passover.
Shavuot is celebrated in Israel and among the Reform movement for one day. In the Diaspora outside of Israel, it is celebrated for two days, the sixth and Seventh days of the Hebrew month of Sivan. It is not a very popular holiday with secualar Jews. In Christianity
In which Shavuot is known as Pentecost, it is sometimes known as the "Birthday of the Church". According to the New Testement, Pentecost was the occasion of the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and follwers of Jesus Christ.
