Trump-auth

President Donald Trump has been known to dabble in conspiracy theories — be it that Barack Obama was secretly born in Kenya, that global warming is a hoax created by China, or that Bill and/or Hillary Clinton had child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein murdered in prison.

It’s unclear if Trump is referring to an actual story he was told by the unnamed “somebody” who was supposedly on this plane, or if he’s just repeating old, unproven rumors that have circulated on social media for months about roving gangs of antifa activists flying around the country to terrorize suburban cities.

Either way, the story itself is highly suspect. Even more suspect, though, is the idea that these roving gangs are secretly controlling Joe Biden from the shadows.

That allegation is so far-fetched that it hardly seems worth even addressing as a serious argument. But while the substance of the claim is patently absurd, Trump’s purpose in making such a claim is worth addressing.

Trump is purposely drawing a straight line between the former vice president and violent extremists where one doesn’t exist. His goal, almost certainly, is to stoke fear of a Biden-led America run by lawless radicals, essentially offering the election-friendly message of “vote for me to keep you safe and the country from descending into anarchic chaos.”

This tactic of painting legitimate protesters as terrorists and political opponents as secretly in thrall to extremists is nothing new — in fact, it’s one frequently used by authoritarian leaders around the world.

From Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Syria’s Bashar al-Assad to Hungary’s Viktor Orbán, strongmen have long used the threat of terrorists at home and abroad — real or imagined — to claim they alone can safeguard their countries.

“It’s an eminently familiar approach and strategy,” said John Carey, an expert on why authoritarian regimes promote conspiracy theories at Dartmouth College. “We’re seeing a politician who’s quick to deploy some of those same rhetorical tools.”

Which, unfortunately, puts Trump in some pretty nasty company — regardless of how slapdash his entree into that community was. “Most strongmen come up with more coherent conspiracy theories,” said Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-NJ), formerly a top State Department official for human rights and democracy, “so that would be an insult to strongmen.”

Why authoritarians use conspiracy theories

There’s a chapter in the Routledge Handbook of Conspiracy Theories, released this year, in which political scientists Julien Giry and Doğan Gürpınar outline exactly why dictators like to promote such obvious and dangerous falsehoods.

“Conspiracy theories are used as propaganda, allowing regimes to identify and denounce perceived enemies and silence political opponents,” they write. “In authoritarian contexts, conspiratorial rhetoric used by the regimes is expedient for mobilizing masses, reinforcing incumbent structures of power and authority, and assuring the loyalty of the people. Conspiracy theories are used to reaffirm the dominant and established values of an ingroup while identifying and subsequently portraying outsiders in a negative light.”

It’s discomforting to acknowledge, but that’s precisely what Trump was doing in the Ingraham interview. By saying there was plane full of thugs willing to unleash violence and secretly control his political opponent, Trump hoped baselessly tarnishing Biden would rally his supporters behind him, the self-proclaimed “law and order” candidate. It might also put the Democratic candidate on the defensive, forcing him to respond to the allegations, thereby breathing more life into the conspiracy theory.

Dartmouth’s Carey said dictators use this play when they want to shift focus away from problems they can’t solve. For Trump, that would be his inability to stop the coronavirus from raging or protests from continuing. “It’s a standard approach usually in response to criticisms,” he told me. “In a way, it’s an acknowledgment of those criticisms by pushing a ‘well, things could be worse if my opponent were in charge’ narrative.”

It’s a dastardly authoritarian design by Trump, but one that has ample global precedent.

Trump is following a horrifying decades-long tradition
But his latest whopper — that his political opponent, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, is secretly being controlled by a roving band of black-clad violent extremists who like to fly on commercial airlines — is more than just another conspiracy theory. It’s also disturbingly reminiscent of a disinformation tactic commonly deployed by dictators around the world to discredit legitimate political opposition.

On Monday, Trump told Fox News’s Laura Ingraham a wild story he’d heard about a supposed plane full of “thugs” who had traveled together on a commercial flight to an unnamed American city to stage protests during the Republican National Convention. These same thugs, in Trump’s telling, are secretly pulling Biden’s strings from the “dark shadows.”

These are “people that you’ve never heard of, people that are in the dark shadows,” Trump said. “They’re people that are on the streets. They’re people that are controlling the streets. We had somebody get on a plane from a certain city this weekend, and in the plane it was almost completely loaded with thugs wearing these dark uniforms, black uniforms with gear and this and that.”

The president wouldn’t offer any more specifics because he said the whole incident is under investigation — another claim for which there’s no public evidence — but added “a lot of people were on the plane to do big damage.”

What Trump did in that Ingraham interview may be quite new for him, but it’s old news in some of the world’s troubled spots.

In 2016, a coup led by factions within Turkey’s military failed to depose Erdoğan. Since then he’s blamed nearly everyone — from the United States to a longtime political opponent — for plotting to depose him. The dictator has found that language helpful for consolidating power and cracking down on domestic and foreign dissent, going so far as to say the pope was part of an “evil front” for recognizing the Armenian genocide Turkey has long denied perpetrating.

“Some circles, at home and abroad, are at a junction,” Erdoğan said in 2016. “They will either side with us, or with terrorists. There is no middle way.”

Throughout the Syrian civil war, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has said anyone fighting to remove him from power is a terrorist. To bolster his point, Assad did the unthinkable: He actually released hundreds of terrorists from prison so he could claim there were terrorists opposing him. That move, among others, destabilized Syria and the broader region, leading Assad in 2014 to encourage the Obama administration to bomb his opponents harder because they were all terrorists.

And Hungary’s Orbán has used the fear of extremists to stifle immigration to his country. “Of course it’s not accepted, but the factual point is that all the terrorists are basically migrants,” he told Politico in 2015, shortly after a terrorist attack in Paris. “The majority of our leaders in the West deny the fact.”

As Vox’s Zack Beauchamp reported three years later, Orbán purposely rode a growing sense of unease with migrants in Hungary to power — and has since fomented the public’s fear to gain more and more control over the country, decimating its democracy in the process.

“Orbán saw a political opportunity in rising public anxiety about migration. His rhetoric began to focus almost monomaniacally on migrants and the threat Muslim immigration posed to Europe’s Christian identity and culture,” he wrote. “While Hungary no longer faces a large influx of refugees, Orbán hasn’t slowed down the anti-migrant rhetoric. If anything, he’s stepped it up. Billboards around the country hyped up fears of ‘illegal migration’ during the 2018 election,” and state-run media outlets “relentlessly cover reports of migrant crime and violence in Hungary and other European countries.”

The common theme here is authoritarians claiming opponents are violent enemies to gain or consolidate power through fear. Srdja Popovic, who was a leader of the movement to oust Serbia’s Slobodan Milošević in 2000, was very familiar with this tactic when asked about it in 2011. “Ah yes, the conspiracy theories of dictators. The language hasn’t changed in 20 years — terrorists, junkies, foreign mercenaries, traitors,” he told the Washington Post.

With Trump’s comments on Monday night, it can safely be said the language now hasn’t changed for 30 years.

I never liked the ACA

I didn't like it when Nixon proposed it as president.

I didn't like it when proposed by the Heritage Foundation in 1989 as an alternative to single-payer health care.

I didn't like it in 1993, when Gingrich and Republican Senators proposed it as an alternative to Clinton's plan, but called it "the HEART Act".

I didn't like it in 1994, when Republican Senator Don Nickles, proposed it under the name "the Consumer Choice Health Security Act"

I didn't like it in 2006, when it was enacted at the state level in Massachusetts by Republican Mitt Romney

In didn't like it in 2007, when it was a Republican Senate bill on a national level, called the Healthy Americans Act.

I didn't like it in 2009 when every republican decided they didn't like it anymore, because the black guy now supports it.

and I don't like it now, I believe we need a single-payer system like Obama originally proposed and republicans who threatened filibuster it, if single-payer or government option were on the table.

--------my plan

Voter's rights bill
---make votes count

14. effectively outlaw the gerrymandering of congressional districts, a practice employed by both Republicans and Democrats to maximize one-party control of individual states by sorting voters into districts according to their politics. Instead, states would be required to form independent commissions to draw districts based on apolitical metrics; state legislative districts would be unaffected.

--Transparency

- Decency

Eliminate Solitary Confinement as Cruel and Unusual Punishment

Create a temporaty committee to conduct Agriculture/custodial/construction industry examinations, as what legal temporary work could look like

ban contributions by corporations substantially owned or controlled by foreigners and would require nonprofit organizations like unions and organizations registered under section 501(c)(4) of the tax code that participate in political activity to disclose the identity of donors who contribute more than $10,000. It would also require large digital companies to make public who is purchasing political ads, provisions included in the high-profile Honest Ads Act during the last Congress.

prohibit coordination between campaigns and outside groups and expand the public financing system for House and presidential candidates.

require presidential inaugural committees, which are subject to very little oversight, to publicly account for their expenditures

require presidents, vice presidents and candidates for those offices to make public 10 years of tax files

federal grants to states to update their elections infrastructure, mandate certain routine security checks by state election authorities and require the executive branch to develop deterrence strategies.

provide funds to beef up Justice Department enforcement of the Foreign Agents Registration Act, tighten federal lobbying rules and strengthen the authority of the Office of Government Ethics.

1. Implementing an immediate ban on all private contributions of money and gifts, to all politicians in federal office, from Individuals, Corporations, Political Action Committees, Super Political Action Committees, Lobbyists, Unions and all other private sources of money to be replaced by the fair and equal public financing of all federal political campaigns. We categorically REJECT the concept that money is equal to free speech because if that were so, then only the wealthiest would have a voice. These actions must be taken because it has become clear that politicians in the United States cannot regulate themselves and have become the exclusive representatives of corporations, unions and the very wealthy who spend vast sums of money on political campaigns to influence the candidates’ decisions and ensure their reelection year after year.

2. The immediate reversal, even if it requires a Constitutional Amendment, of the outrageous and anti-democratic holding in the “Citizens United” case by the Supreme Court, which equates the payment of money by corporations, wealthy individuals and unions to politicians with free speech. We, the People, demand that institutional bribery and corruption not be deemed protected speech.

3. Prohibiting all federal public officials and their immediate family members, whether elected or appointed, from EVER being employed by any corporation they regulate while in office and/or holding any stock or shares in any corporation they regulate while in office until a full 5 years after their term is completed

4. A complete lifetime ban on accepting all gifts, services, money, directly or indirectly, to any elected or appointed federal officials or their immediate family members, from any person, corporation, union or other entity that the public official was charged to regulate while in office.

5. A complete reformation of the United States Tax Code to require ALL citizens to pay a fair share of a progressive, graduated income tax by eliminating loopholes, unfair tax breaks, exemptions and deductions, subsidies (e.g. oil, gas and farm) and ending all other methods of evading taxes. The current system of taxation favors the wealthiest Americans, many of whom, pay fewer taxes to the United States Treasury than citizens who earn much less and pay a much higher percentage of income in taxes to the United States Treasury. We, like Warren Buffet, find this income tax disparity to be fundamentally unjust.

6. Medicare for all American citizens or another single-payer healthcare system, adjusted by a means test (i.e. citizens who can afford it may opt-out and pay their own health insurance or opt-in and pay a means tested premium). The Medicaid program, fraught with corruption and fraud, will be eliminated except for the purpose of providing emergency room care to indigent non-citizens who will not be covered by the single-payer program.

7. New comprehensive regulations to give the Environmental Protection Agency expanded powers to shut down corporations, businesses or any entities that intentionally or recklessly damage the environment and/or criminally prosecute individuals who intentionally damage the environment. We also demand the immediate adoption of the most recent international protocols, including the “Washington Declaration” to cap carbon emissions and implement new and existing programs to transition away from fossil fuels to reusable or carbon neutral sources of power.

8. Adoption of an immediate plan to reduce the national debt to a sustainable percentage of GDP by 2020. Reduction of the national debt to be achieved by BOTH a cut in spending to corporations engaged in perpetual war for profit, the “healthcare” industry, the pharmaceutical industry and all other sectors that use the federal budget as their income stream AND a truly progressive income tax code that does not allow the wealthy and corporations to evade taxes through excessive deductions, subsidies and loopholes. We agree that spending cuts are necessary but those cuts must be made to facilitate what is best for the People of the United States of America, not multinational and domestic corporations.

9. Passage of a comprehensive job and job-training act like the American Jobs Act to employ our citizens in jobs that are available with specialized training and by putting People to work now by repairing America’s crumbling infrastructure. We also recommend the establishment of an online international job exchange to match employers with skilled workers or employers willing to train workers in 21st century skills.

10. Student loan debt relief. Our young People and students are more than $830 billion in debt from education loans alone. Payment and interest on these debts should be deferred for periods of unemployment and the principal on these loans reduced using a corporate tax surcharge.

11. Immediate passage of the Dream Act and comprehensive immigration and border security reform including offering visas, lawful permanent resident status and citizenship to the world’s brightest People to stay and work in our industries and schools after they obtain their education and training in the United States.

12. Recalling all military personnel at all non-essential bases and refocusing national defense goals to address threats posed by the geopolitics of the 21st century, including terrorism and limiting the large scale deployment of military forces to instances where Congressional approval has been granted to counter the Military Industrial Complex’s goal of perpetual war for profit.

13. Mandating new educational goals to train the American public to perform jobs in a 21st Century economy, particularly in the areas of technology and green energy, taking into consideration the redundancy caused by technology and the inexpensive cost of labor in China, India and other countries and paying our teachers a competitive salary commensurate with the salaries of employees in the private sector with similar skills.

14. Subject to the elimination of corporate tax loopholes and exploited exemptions and deductions stated above, offering tax incentives to businesses to remain in the United States and hire its citizens rather than outsource jobs and reconstruct the manufacturing capacity of the United States.  In conjunction with a new jobs act, reinstitution of the Works Progress Administration and Civilian Conservation Corps or a similar emergency governmental agency tasked with creating new public works projects to provide jobs to the 46 million People living in poverty, the 9.1% unemployed and 10% underemployed.

15. Implementing of immediate legislation to encourage China and our other trading partners to end currency manipulation and reduce the trade deficit.

16. Immediate reenactment of the Glass-Steagall Act and increased regulation of Wall Street and the financial industry by the SEC, FINRA and the other financial regulators, and the commencement of a Justice Department criminal investigations into the Securities and Banking industries practices that led to the collapse of markets, $700 billion bail-out, and financial firm failures in 2007-2008.

17. Adoption of a plan similar to President Clinton’s proposal to end the mortgage crisis and instead of the Federal Reserve continuing to lower interest rates for loans to banks who are refusing to loan to small businesses and consumers, the Federal Reserve shall buy all underwater or foreclosed mortgages and refinance these debts at 1% or less to be managed by the newly established Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (and foreclosure task force described below) because 1% or less is the interest rate the Federal Reserve loans to the banks directly who hoard the cash rather than loan it to the People and small businesses.

18. An immediate one year freeze on all foreclosures to be reviewed by an independent foreclosure task force appointed by Congress and the Executive Branch to (in conjunction with the  Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ) determine, on a case by case basis, whether foreclosure proceedings should continue based on the circumstances of each homeowner and propriety of the financial institution’s conduct.

19. Subject to the above ban on all private money and gifts in politics, to enact additional campaign finance reform requiring free air time and public campaign finances to all candidates who obtain sufficient petition signatures and/or votes to participate in the primaries and/or electoral process, to shorten the campaign season and to allow voting on weekends and holidays.

20. An immediate withdrawal of all troops from Iraq and Afghanistan and a substantial increase in the amount of funding needed for veteran job placement and the treatment of the physical and emotional injuries sustained by veterans in these wars. Our veterans are committing suicide at an unprecedented rate and we must help now.

------DRINKING AGE-----

Persons over the age of 18 are tried as adults, may serve and die in mililitary service, marry, and vote. It is age discrimination to treat persons over the age of 18 as an adult in every aspect of government but not afford them the same rights.

Lower the legal drinking age limit to 18 so that legal alcohol consumtion may be supervised by police, security guards and health workers as well. Countries such as Italy, China, Greece with lower drinking ages have fewer alcohol related problems.

Republicans have had a long history of censorship Sedition Act of 1918,  Espionage Act of 1917, McCarthyism,
Alien Registration Act or Smith Act of 1940
In 1952, the Immigration and Nationality, or McCarran-Walter, Act

On one hand, Rosanne insulted a race of people, and they have voiced their displeasure. ABC has the right to end it's business with someone who violates their code of conduct, which includes racism. On the other hand, Bee insulted Ivanka Trump. So unless Feckless people, or c***t's are a race I have never heard of, it is not at all similar.

Rosanne was fired by her employer, Bee is being attacked by the federal government.
I dont't think I have ever met a conservative who understands the first ammendment. The Banning books, video games, or internet content for example  involves government action, and would constitute Censorship / First Amendment violations. The First Amendment says that “CONGRESS shall make no law . . . abridging the freedom of speech,”

The so called "censorship" that conservatives complain about, like the firing of Rossanne, Macy’s and Univision severing their business relationships with Trump after his comments about Mexicans, or Starbucks making their Christmas cups red, are the right of a business to protect it's image, and conduct business how they desire.  No law or government action has been proposed and it would be a constitutional violation for the government to intervene.

Rosanne's firing does not constitute the restriction of free speech. Republican's desire consequence-free speech, the ability to say anything and suffer no loss of love, respect or business opportunities. No such right has ever been guaranteed by the Constitution, and the reaction of private citizens isn’t censorship.

The Joe McCarthy hearings, the goals of the PTC, the Republican parental rights amendments of the 90's, Omission of the Ku Klux Klan and Slavery in Texas schoolbooks, Omission of Islam in South Carolina schoolbooks, or Paul Ryan ordering CSPAN to shut off its cameras during the 2016 Democrat sit-in, would be considered actual censorship.  The president of the United States banning reporters from the White House and calling on ESPN and TBS to fire certain employees for statements he doesn't approve, is at least bordering on violating the first amendment.

The 2015 Harris poll shows that republicans are significantly more receptive to censorship and the government banning of Books, Video games, Television programs, and Movies.  The only instance that democrats were more receptive of censorship was Books that discuss creationism.  http://www.theharrispoll.com/health-and-life/Censorship_2015.html

As a side note, this is why I have always been critical of some people trying to transform a word, with no real history of degradation, into a slur. Especially a word that is used regularly in other countries throughout the world.  It in no way compares to words that have been used to degrade races of people for generations. It is dirty a word for a body part, so let's not pretend it has anywhere near the same connotation as a racial slur.  If people treat it on the same level, it will continue to be used as a tool by bigots to justify the use of actual language of racial degredation -- "So and so" said 'that' bad word, so why can't I slur a race of people and not get fired?

--------RIGHT TO CHOOSE------

Abortion pro-life pro-choice

Such laws are increasingly being used as the basis for actually arresting women who have no intention of ending a pregnancy and for preventing women from making their own decisions about how they will give birth.

Here are a few illustrative anecdotes:

1. In Iowa, a pregnant woman who fell down a flight of stairs was reported to the police after seeking help at a hospital. She was arrested for "attempted fetal homicide."

2. In Utah, a woman gave birth to twins; one was stillborn. Health care providers believed that the stillbirth was the result of the woman's decision to delay having a cesarean. She was arrested on charges of fetal homicide.

3. In another case, a woman who had been in labor at home was picked up by a sheriff, strapped down in the back of an ambulance, taken to a hospital, and forced to have a cesarean she did not want. When this mother later protested what had happened, a court concluded that the woman's personal constitutional rights 'clearly did not outweigh the interests of the State of Florida in preserving the life of the unborn child.'

--------GLOBAL WARMING------

The earth is a natural greenhouse and is kept warm by water vapors, carbon dioxide (CO2), and other gases in the atmosphere, which absorb the sun's energy and radiate it back toward the earth. This type of warming is called "natural greenhouse effect." "Enhanced greenhouse effect," on the other hand, causes global climate change due to excessive levels of CO2 in the atmosphere.

Geologists believe sea levels could rise between seven and 23 inches by the end of the century if current warming trends continue.

Worldwide, one hundred million people live within three feet of sea level, and much of the world's population is clustered in coastal areas.

The earth has always experienced cyclical bouts of climate change. Recorded temperatures throughout history display graphs of peaks and valleys with occasional extreme periods, such as the Little Ice Age of the seventeenth and eighteenth century and the Medieval Warm Period of the eleventh century.

The last two decades of the twentieth century were the hottest decades in more than 400 years and may have been the hottest decades for several thousand years.

Deserts worldwide are increasing as a result of warmer temperatures. At the end of the year 2007, Australia lost 25 percent of crop production due to desertification.

---------COAL---------

carbon-capture technology, which is designed to collect and dispose of coal plants’ carbon-dioxide emissions before they escape into the atmosphere, where they trap heat. That technology may be on the drawing board and in a few small-scale demonstration projects, but it’s not close to being ready for widespread use at an affordable price.

The one U.S. plant that's being designed to use carbon capture, now under construction in Kemper County, Mississippi, is two years behind schedule and $4 billion over budget. A similar, heavily subsidized project in Saskatchewan has demonstrated that outfitting the world’s power stations with the technology could cost upward of $17 trillion.

In the near future, carbon capture promises to be of little help in the fight against climate change -- especially compared with natural gas, the increasing supply of renewable power, and the clean energy that nuclear plants produce.

By insisting otherwise, Trump betrays the coal miners.

Trump blames Democrats and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for putting miners out of work by shutting down coal-fired power plants. That charge is inflated: The decline in coal jobs in the U.S. has mainly to do with better mining technology (reducing the number of workers), the worldwide collapse in coal prices, and competition from cheaper, cleaner sources of energy such as solar, wind and natural gas.

--------RECYCLING---------

Plastic bags are easier to recycle and require less energy to produce than paper bags.

Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a television for three hours.

***

Bonus Fact:

Cigarette butts and filters take 12 years to biodegrade. An aluminum can takes between 200 to 500 years to degrade. Plastic diapers and sanitary pads take between 500-800 years. Styrofoam takes more than 5,000 years. And it would take a glass bottle 1 million years to degrade.
--------------PUBLIC RECYCLING
co-mingled collection or mixed waste collection,
At one end of the spectrum is mixed waste collection, in which all recyclates are collected mixed in with the rest of the waste, and the desired material is then sorted out and cleaned at a central sorting facility. This results in a large amount of recyclable waste, paper especially, being too soiled to reprocess, but has advantages as well: the city need not pay for a separate collection of recyclates and no public education is needed. Any changes to which materials are recyclable is easy to accommodate as all sorting happens in a central location.

Advances in sorting technology (see sorting below), however, have lowered this overhead substantially—many areas which had developed source separation programs have since switched to co-mingled collection

A study conducted by the Technical University of Denmark according to the Economist found that in 83 percent of cases, recycling is the most efficient method to dispose of household waste.[4][13] However, a 2004 assessment by the Danish Environmental Assessment Institute concluded that incineration was the most effective method for disposing of drink containers, even aluminium ones.[64]

According to one report, in America, 50–80 percent of computers destined for recycling are actually not recycled.[69][70]

The concept of sustainable design aims to solve this problem, and was laid out in the book Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things by architect William McDonough and chemist Michael Braungart. They suggest that every product (and all packaging they require) should have a complete "closed-loop" cycle mapped out for each component—a way in which every component will either return to the natural ecosystem through biodegradation or be recycled indefinitely.

Complete recycling is impracticable as highly dispersed wastes become so diluted that the energy needed for their recovery becomes increasingly excessive. "For example, how will it ever be possible to recycle the numerous chlorinated organic hydrocarbons that have bioaccumulated in animal and human tissues across the globe, the copper dispersed in fungicides, the lead in widely applied paints, or the zinc oxides present in the finely dispersed rubber powder that is abraded from automobile tires?"[75]:260

paperboard packaging for food products is more easily recycled than most plastic, but is heavier to ship and may result in more waste from spoilage

The amount of energy saved through recycling depends upon the material being recycled and the type of energy accounting that is used. Correct accounting for this saved energy can be accomplished with life-cycle analysis using real energy values. In addition, exergy, which is a measure of useful energy can be used. In general, it takes far less energy to produce a unit mass of recycled materials than it does to make the same mass of virgin materials.[77][78][79]

Emergy (spelled with an m) analysis, for example, budgets for the amount of energy of one kind (exergy) that is required to make or transform things into another kind of product or service. Emergy calculations take into account economics which can alter pure physics based results.

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) states on its website that "a paper mill uses 40 percent less energy to make paper from recycled paper than it does to make paper from fresh lumber."[81]

-- maybe count the recycles according to a recycle life based on exergy value

Some critics argue that it takes more energy to produce recycled products than it does to dispose of them in traditional landfill methods, since the curbside collection of recyclables often requires a second waste truck. However, recycling proponents point out that a second timber or logging truck is eliminated when paper is collected for recycling, so the net energy consumption is the same.

How much energy is used in recycling also depends on the type of material being recycled and the process used to do so. Aluminium is generally agreed to use far less energy when recycled rather than being produced from scratch.
The EPA states that "recycling aluminum cans, for example, saves 95 percent of the energy required to make the same amount of aluminum from its virgin source, bauxite."[83][84]

In some cases, the cost of recyclable materials also exceeds the cost of raw materials. Virgin plastic resin costs 40 percent less than recycled resin.[98] Additionally, a United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) study that tracked the price of clear glass from July 15 to August 2, 1991, found that the average cost per ton ranged from $40 to $60,[99] while a USGS report shows that the cost per ton of raw silica sand from years 1993 to 1997 fell between $17.33 and $18.10.[100]

 A life cycle assessment can be used to determine the levels of externalities and decide whether the recycling may be worthwhile despite unfavorable market costs.

In a 2007 article, Michael Munger, chairman of political science at Duke University, wrote that "if recycling is more expensive than using new materials, it can't possibly be efficient.... There is a simple test for determining whether something is a resource... or just garbage... If someone will pay you for the item, it's a resource.... But if you have to pay someone to take the item away,... then the item is garbage.

In a 2002 article for The Heartland Institute, Jerry Taylor, director of natural resource studies at the Cato Institute, wrote, "If it costs X to deliver newly manufactured plastic to the market, for example, but it costs 10X to deliver reused plastic to the market, we can conclude the resources required to recycle plastic are 10 times more scarce than the resources required to make plastic from scratch. And because recycling is supposed to be about the conservation of resources, mandating recycling under those circumstances will do more harm than good."

One labor-intensive underused waste is electronic and computer waste. Because this waste may still be functional and wanted mostly by those on lower incomes, who may sell or use it at a greater efficiency than large recyclers.  If a consumtion tax were adopted rather than an income tax, elcectronic and furniture recycling would become more attractive due to the absence of tax on second-hand items.  Items may be made sturdier or multi-use as well.

With this evidence, the police concluded that racial hatred was the main cause of the murders.

June 17, 2015: Charleston church shooting: Suspect Dylann Roof carried out a mass shooting at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, United States. The church is one of the United States' oldest black churches and has long been a site for community organization around civil rights. 2006: David McMenemy of Rochester Hills, Michigan, crashed his car into the Edgerton Women's Care Center in Davenport, Iowa. He then doused the lobby in gasoline and started a fire. McMenemy committed these acts in the belief that the center was performing abortions; however, Edgerton is not an abortion clinic. Time magazine listed the incident in a "Top 10 Inept Terrorist Plots" list.

2007: A package left at a women's health clinic in Austin, Texas, contained an explosive device capable of inflicting serious injury or death. "...IQ scores are going up, which means we're actually getting smarter."

--------Hypnotism-------

Before he introduced hypnotism in 1775, Franz Mesmer tried to heal patients by having them swallow a drink with tiny grains of iron and then moving magnets over their bodies to sway the magnetic currents. When he realized people were reacting to his performance, he stopped using magnets and relied on the effect of his own voice.

The first recorded use of hypnosis as anaesthesia took place in the 19th century. Dr. James Esdaile, a Scottish surgeon working in India, used hypnosis successfully in hundreds of limb amputations.

People with the best imaginations are the easiest to hypnotize. Hypnosis researcher Theodore Sarbin calls hypnosis "believed-in imaginings."

Between 70 and 80 percent of people respond to certain hypnotic suggestions but not others. For example, they may scratch their head when a buzzer goes off if the hypnotist has told them to, but they won't go so far as to pour a bucket of water over their heads.

Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette believed so strongly in Franz Mesmer's technique that they created the Magnetic Institute in France. At first, Mesmer had patients put their feet in buckets of magnetized water, with cables attached to magnetized trees. The French medical community - and visiting diplomat Benjamin Franklin - denounced him as a fraud.

Falling under the power of a hypnotist was a legal defense in France in the 19th century. It was believed that a hypnotist could make someone "a toy in his hands" and that the person "could not reject the ideas of the beguiler." People who committed crimes under such influence could not be held legally or morally responsible for their acts.

QUOTE: "You use hypnosis not as a cure but as a means of establishing a favorable climate in which to learn."

ANSWER: Milton H. Erickson.

Pro-Kremlin analyst Sergei Markov said yesterday... "We're glad the new president will be Donald Trump who respects Vladimir Putin and recognises that Crimea is part of Russia," Referring to Trump's statements on ABC News, saying "I'm gonna take a look at it", when asked about the possibility of lifting sanctions against Russia tied to its annexation of Crimea. He went on to say "the people of Crimea, from what I've heard, would rather be with Russia than where they were"

In December of 2013, Article 280.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia, which includes the recently annexed Crimea,  designated 'incitement of violation of territorial integrity of the Russian Federation' punishable by labor up to 480 hours or imprisonment up to five years.  Of which Putin used to imprison, and reportedly execute and/or torture those who publicly oposed the annexation.  Even if Trump is referring to interviews or polling, the people in Crimea are not allowed to say they disagree with the annexation.

REPUBLICAN FUTURE

Get your ten-dollar company store credit after your 12 hour work day (Unions are Illegal) at the coal mine (although coal is no longer a profitable commodity, the company still makes money because of the 100 billion dollar government subsidy).
Pick your children up from Bible School (Science is Illegal) in your Ford F850, bring them back to your trailer, carfully avoiding your land mine home defense system, kiss your sister/wife, and open 'the Crusader' to the NASCAR section.

Exactly like Taliban-era Afghanistan, except Bibles instead of Korans, more guns, and more incest.

SLAVERY IN THE CIVIL WAR

Students in Texas are required to read the  speech Jefferson Davis gave when he was inaugurated president of the Confederate States of America, an address that does not mention slavery. But students are not required to read a famous speech by Alexander Stephens, Davis’s vice president, in which he explained that the South’s desire to preserve slavery was the cornerstone of its new government and “the immediate cause of the late rupture and present revolution.”

"The new [Confederate] constitution has put at rest, forever, all the agitating questions relating to our peculiar institution African slavery as it exists amongst us the proper status of the negro in our form of civilization. This was the immediate cause of the late rupture and present revolution," said Alexander Stephens on March 21, 1861. Almost one year later he would become the first and only vice president of the Confederate States of America.

"Confederate states did claim the right to secede, but no state claimed to be seceding for that right. In fact, Confederates opposed states' rights — that is, the right of Northern states not to support slavery," wrote historian James W. Loewen in a Washington Post article on the issue. Then the Confederates attacked Fort Sumter and the war was on. Making things more confusing is the fact that Lincoln was strongly against slavery but initially argued that the war would be about keeping the Union together because he knew many in the North and on the border didn't care enough about slavery to go to war about it. Less than two years into the war, he signed the Emancipation Proclamation in an attempt to make it crystal clear for future armchair historians what was at stake.

“Our position is clearly identified with the institution of slavery,” reads Mississippi’s declaration , signed in 1861.

TAX

The U.S. didn't institute an income tax until the time of the Civil War, as a temporary measure. It took the Sixteenth Amendment, ratified in 1913, to make it possible for the federal government to tax individuals directly.

But the story of tax day doesn't end there. In 1954, Congress passed nearly 1,000 pages of revision to the Internal Revenue Code. In it, Tax Day would be moved from March 15 to April 15, giving the taxpayer an extra month to recover from Christmas expenses.

Email the Editor

Today's Random Fact:

The federal tax code is now 74,608-page-long. It is 187 times longer than it was a century ago.

From 2010, when Obamacare was passed, to 2014, the tax code grew by nearly 3,000 more pages.

If the tax code continues to grow at the same pace it did over the last century, it will pass 100,000 pages in 2050.

***

Bonus Fact:

Tax deniers (tax defiers or tax protesters) are people who refuses to pay tax on constitutional or legal grounds.

Tax protesters raise a number of different kinds of arguments, these typically include constitutional arguments, such as claims that the Sixteenth Amendment to the Constitution was not properly ratified or that it is unconstitutional generally, or that being forced to file an income tax return violates the Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination.

These arguments rarely work out for them.

-------------------
Mitt Romney's Wind Vane strategy and why it's working.
Depending on where he's campaining he is able to get on both sides or brush up against his competiters on virtually all issues. When campaining in Massachusets, obviously a liberal minded state, he had to paint himself as a moderate though slightly more conservative than his oponent.  When running in the Republican primaries (a far more conservative constituant) he had to "shake the etch-a-sketch", to quote his own campaign manager, and run as "very conservative", slightly less conservative than his republican oponents (but more electable).  When the nomination was official, the etch-a-sketch was shaken and he adopted moderate policies once again that are only slightly more conservative than Obama's. This makes him a perceivably viable option for everyone.  Here are some examples...

1. Regarding Abortion, In 1994 he said said when running in the widely pro-choice Massachusets...

"I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country. I believe that since Roe v. Wade has been the law for 20 years, that we should sustain and support it. I sustain and support that law and the right of a woman to make that choice."

SHAKE!, SHAKE! ... In 2001.

"I do not wish to be labeled Pro-Choice"

SHAKE!, SHAKE! AGAIN ... In 2002 he said also running in Massachusets

"I will preserve and protect a woman's right to choose and am devoted and dedicated to honoring my word in that regard."

SHAKE!, SHAKE! AGAIN... in 2007 when campaigning in a pro-life environment at the Iowa straw poll....

"Look, I was pro-choice. I am pro-life. You can go back to YouTube and look at what I said in 1994. I never said I was pro-choice, but my position was effectively pro-choice. I changed my position."

SHAKE!, SHAKE! AGAIN... in October  2012 Romney told the Des Moines Register,

“There’s no legislation with regard to abortion that I’m familiar with that would become part of my agenda.”

SHAKE!, SHAKE! AGAIN... October 20th, 2012 in

2. Regarding gun control, In the Massachusets Gubernatorial debate of 2002...

"We do have tough gun laws in Massachusetts. I support them. I won't chip away at them."

And...

"Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts." While signing a Ban on Assault rifles in Massachusets.

SHAKE!, SHAKE! ... after leaving Massachusets, he said....

"I don’t support any gun control legislation, the effort for a new assault weapons ban, with a ban on semi-automatic weapons, is something I would oppose."

3. Regarding Universal Health Care, in a speach from 2007...

"I'm proud of what we've done. If Massachusetts succeeds in implementing [Romneycare], then that will be a model for the nation."

And at the presidential primary of 2008...

"I like mandates. Mandates work."

SHAKE!, SHAKE! .... at the Rupublican primary debate of 2011 after the republican base had changed it's position on mandated Healthcare (because Obamacare was legislated)...

"At the time I crafted the plan in the last campaign I was asked is [Romneycare] something that you would have the whole nation do, and I said no. This is something that was crafted for Massachusetts. It would be wrong to adopt this as a nation."

SHAKE, SHAKE AGAIN .... When asked what his health care plan was during the October 3rd debate with Obama...

"Well, actually it’s — it’s — it’s a lengthy description. But, number one, preexisting conditions are covered under my plan...
And with regards to health care, you had remarkable details with regards to my pre-existing condition plan. You obviously studied up on — on my plan. In fact, I do have a plan that deals with people with pre-existing conditions. That’s part of my health care plan. And what we did in Massachusetts is a model for the nation state by state. And I said that at that time."

4. Regarding Climate Change at a NH townhall meeting in 2011...

"I believe the world’s getting warmer. I can’t prove that, but I believe based on what I read that the world is getting warmer. And number two, I believe that humans contribute to that. ... And so I think it's important for us to reduce our emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases that may well be significant contributors to the climate change and the global warming that you're seeing."

SHAKE!, SHAKE! .... Four short months later at a Q&A in PA in 2011...

"My view is that we don’t know what’s causing climate change on this planet. And the idea of spending trillions and trillions of dollars to try to reduce CO2 emissions is not the right course for us."

5. Regarding Don't ask Don't tell, In a letter to Log Cabin Republicans...

Romney said he was in favor of  "gays and lesbians being able to serve openly and honestly" in the military"

SHAKE!, SHAKE! .... later in the Republican primary of 2007...

"(Don't Ask Don't Tell has) been the policy now in the military for, what, 10, 15 years – and it seems to have worked. This is not the time to put in major change, a social experiment, in the middle of a war going on."

6. Regarding Gay Rights, in his 1994 Senate campaign against Democrat Edward Kennedy that he

"would be a greater advocate for gay rights than Kennedy."

SHAKE!, SHAKE! .... After Romney's interview with Pat Buchanon, Buchanan issued a clarification to BuzzFeed following the initial publication of his interview, writing, “Governor Romney supports a federal marriage amendment to the Constitution that defines marriage as an institution between a man and a woman. Governor Romney also believes, consistent with the 10th Amendment, that it should be left to states to decide whether to grant same-sex couples certain benefits, such as hospital visitation rights and the ability to adopt children. I referred to the Tenth Amendment only when speaking about these kinds of benefits – not marriage.”

7. Regarding the Auto Bailout on May 7, 2012,

"If General Motors, Ford and Chrysler get the bailout that their chief executives asked for, you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye. It won't go overnight, but its demise will be virtually guaranteed."

SHAKE!, SHAKE! .... A couple months later...

"I pushed the idea of a managed bankruptcy and finally when it was done and help was given, the companies got back on their feet. So, I'll take a lot of credit for the fact that this industry has come back".

8. Regarding the Bush Tax Cuts on Jan. 6, 2008.

According to the Boston Herald - "He (Romney) told his state delegation that he 'won't be a cheerleader' for tax cuts that he doesn't agree with."

SHAKE!, SHAKE! .... Republican primaries 2012

"I have never opposed the Bush 2002 tax cuts. I supported them."

9. Regarding Illegal immigaration on Nov. 22, 2011.

 "My view is that those 12 million who come here illegally should be given the opportunity to sign up to stay here "

SHAKE!, SHAKE! .... 2012 Republican primary debate

"But to say that we're going to say to the people who have come here illegally that now you're all going to get to stay ... amnesty is a magnet..."

10.  Regarding the War in Iraq on Dec. 21, 2011 after it was known there were no WMD's

"It was the right decision to go into Iraq. I supported it at the time, I support it now"

SHAKE!, SHAKE! .... A few short months later...

"If we knew at the time of our entry into Iraq that there were no WMD, if somehow we had been given that information, obviously we would not have gone in."

11. Regarding Osama Bin Laden on  May 1st, 2012....

"It's not worth moving heaven and earth spending billions of dollars trying to catch one person"

A couple months later...

"Of course the right course was to assassinate, execute Osama bin Laden. I congratulate the president for doing so. And I'm confident I would have taken the same exact decision".

12. Regarding the Economic Stimulus on Sept. 28th, 201! (Sept. 28, 2011

"I think there is a need for economic stimulus."

SHAKE!, SHAKE! .... A few months later

"I have never supported the President's Recovery Act, alright, the stimulus. No time, nowhere, nohow".

13.  Regarding the The Blunt Amendment (It Creates a Loophole, Allowing Employers and Plans to Use Religious or Moral Convictions to Eliminate Critical Health Care Services).

“I’m not for the bill (the blunt amendment), but look, the idea of presidential candidates getting into questions about contraception within a relationship between a man and a woman, husband and wife, I’m not going there,” Romney answered.

SHAKE!, SHAKE! .... After some backlash from conservatives he released a statement...

“I didn't understand his question,” Romney said on a Boston radio show later Wednesday. “Of course, I support the Blunt amendment.”

SHAKE!, SHAKE! AGAIN!.... October, 2012 presidential debate...

"Every woman in America should have access to contraceptives"

As Ron Paul pointed out in the Republican Debates, Romney lack's convictions, and therefore cannot be pinned down on the issues.  But he also can't be trusted because the public doesn't know the real Romney (assuming the "real" Romney has any convictions at all).  All we know is that he is a political Wind Vane, flowing with the convictions of his audience. If he doesn't stand for something, he is likely to do whatever the lobbyists pay him to do.  If I can quote Republican Gov. Rick Perry from Texas...

"This is not leadership! Mitt Romney needs to realize that "when you try to stand on both sides of an issue, you stand for nothing."

OCCUPY WALL STREET
I have never seen such extreme media manipulation in my life on both sides (liberal and conservative) regarding the Occupy Wall Street Movement. This email is not meant in support of, or opposition to the movement.  it is not meant to be left or right, simply a clarification of who they are and why they are there.

1. Here is an explanation by Doug Wead, former George W Bush adviser, on a conservative website about why the Occupy Wall Street protesters are there....
http://www.conservativeactionalerts.com/2011/10/ron-paul-and-the-occupy-wall-street-protest/

2. Here is a Video from famous conservative Star-Ledger columnist Paul Mulshine's visit to Occupy Wall Street
http://www.nj.com/ledgerlive/index.ssf/2011/10/cranky_con_goes_to_occupy_wall.html

I know youtube videos Can't be played at work but if you want to copy down these links and watch them later I think you will be surprised...

3. Fox reporter returns from Occupy LA and reports that there are NO Obama supporters and EVERYONE is voting for Ron Paul.  The Host says he has had the same experience and has tried to pass the information on to the network (FOX).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cW0zaKEIenI

4.Protester goes on a rant about the federal reserve at Occupy Wall Street, Ron Paul's message.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxjfgnliNwI&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PLFBAB660866E9EE26

5. Another interview with a protester at Occupy LA claiming Ron Paul is the only choice
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KofVTt_6jmg

6. Here is a debate at Occupy Wall Street between Ron Paul supporters and someone who claims he is socialist.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrU3FZlN7Fs

There are a ton of youtube videos of liberal celebrities caught off guard by the overwhelming pro- Ron Paul presence. Here is Alec Baldwin...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEnc7iak6ms
There are many more...

FOX News claims they are Socialists and Vagrants,
MSNBC claims them as fellow progressives,
They are Both equally wrong.
Most "occupiers" claim the movement is over 50% Ron Paul supporters and near 0% Obama supporters.
How did two major networks mistake a mostly far right libertarian movement for a far left one? They assumed, they did no research, and they never asked.  They were too busy building their case for or against it.
It shouldn't be too much longer before Fox News realises they have been "eating their own" and MSNBC relaizes they have been "coddling the enemy". Will they reverse their respective roles? I expect a slow transition in an attempt by both networks to save face.
One thing we should learn from this is to reject the media's opinionated presentation (especially from these two sources) as "fact".  Then maybe ... just maybe ... we can do a little research ourselves rather than accept what is presented to us by the media.

Why do the groups have to be different species? You also chose "ants" who all work together as one economy for one common community goal, every healthy ant is given a job as a contingent of life. This is socialism.  Socialism we know will fail when faced with competition from capitalism.
        Anyway I have a more applicable story (if it sounds familiar stick with it, it's original). Lets assume these ants act like capialists rather than socialists. 1.5 % of them didn't work through the summer and are now leaching off the rest of the ants (this is about the number of people on welfare now - 4.4 million out of 300 million).  We will also throw out the economic and industrial history of the Ant colony, we will throw out slave labor, child labor, and the rise of organized labor movements.  We will skip to our current era, one of marriage between government and big business, where capitalism has been abandoned for corporatism.
          ...............................................................................................................
           A nice Ant couple, newly married, is excited about opening their own leaf store. They first must jump a parade of colony  regulations. They are disguised as well intentioned, helping out the disabled, protecting the environment, providing for the worker Ant's health. The problem is that there are too many of them, they cost too much, and they are commissioned by the big box leaf store chains. By driving up costs the big box leaf stores can assure that they will have a monopoly on leafs.
         But let’s say the Ant family mortgages their Ant hill and get the start up money to overcome this.  The big box leaf stores control the leaf industry. It is not just through volume but also that their political donations assure that their friend Ants get appointed to the colony leaf inspection agencies. The very Ants who worked for the big box leaf companies will cross over and become a regulator. Ant tax dollars will go to subsidize the big box leaf stores.
         The Ants that pass the laws in Antington D.C. are corrupt. The Big Box Leaf company establishes a lobby in Antington, D.C., which our ant family can't afford to do. They start with a firm of lawyers and former Ant politicians and leaf inspectors. They lobby congressional ants for money for their big box leaf corporation. And they get it. The big box leaf stores are  too large and powerful and control the price and quality of the leafs but also take dollars out of the Ants pocket as an additional subsidy.
So the Ant family has no choice but to get a job at Leaf-Mart. The dream of creating their own leaf store was out of their reach. They now earn a stagnant wage and pay a 25% tax rate.
                       35% of the tax goes to elderly ants.
                       31% goes to discretionary spending and other mandatory services. A large amount of money went to bailing out the banker and corporate ants who had mismanaged their businesses. The same corporate ants who had paid congressional ants to rig the system in their favor had still failed. It might seem like this would be an oportunity for other ants to establish start-ups, but no, the profits of the corporate ants are privatized but the risks are socialized.
                       25% of the tax goes to Army ants. The big box leaf stores have discovered that they can find cheaper leafs in other ant colonies . Some foreign ants do not like the economic arangements and intend to disrupt them. Antington D.C. has deployed the Army ants to protect these economic interests and has handed out no-bid support contracts to their Ant friends. All funded by worker ant tax dollars.  They have also found they can give foreign worker ants fewer rations and have moved the majority of their leaf plants overseas but continue to receive the same tax subsidies locally.
                        9% goes to interest on the debt because the governing ants cant seem to balance a budget.  The governing ants are given millions of ant dollars for election campaigns by the big box leaf companies, are surrounded all day by lobbyists for the big box leaf companies, taken to dinner, given gifts, and when the congressional ants retire the big box leaf company has a cushy high paying job waiting. All in exchange to keep the current marriage between corporate and congressional ants going, and keeping our ant family from establishing their leaf store and taking market share from the big box leaf companies.
                     10% of their tax goes to assist other ants economically, some are disabled, some are handicapped, some are working for it, and some are scamming the system. Many conservative ants focus on this greatly. AntFOX news presses it's viewers to focus on this small number of deadbeat ants rather than the trillions of unconditional funds that are handed out to domestic and foreign corporate ants like the ownership of ANTfox news and it's friends. If they can keep a percentage of the population focused on a group of people that will always be there no matter what is done, it is business as usual in Antington D.C.
                      Finally the greatest tax of all. The income and savings of our ant family is devalued greater than their wage can grow because the governing ants allow special FEDants to print money unregulated and hand it out to who they please. In 2009 these FEDants printed 16 trillion ant dollars and handed it out to corporate and banker ants, 3 trillion to went to corporate and banker ants in foreign colonies. Due to no fault of their own, our Ant family will soon find out that their money is worth half of what it was worth just a couple years earlier.

All our ant family can do is play the game, be followers, and wonder "what happened to this colony, what happened to the Ant dream?".

The ANT AND THE GRASSHOPPER
This one is a little different....
Two Different Versions ...
Two Different Morals

OLD VERSION
The ant works
hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper
thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the ant is warm
and well fed.

The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.

MORAL OF THE OLD STORY:
Be responsible for yourself!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ANT AND THE GRASHOPPER MODERN VERSION
The ant works hard
in the withering heat and the rain all summer long, building his house
and laying up supplies for the winter.
The grasshopper thinks the ant
is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.
Come winter, the shivering grasshopper
calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be
allowed to be warm and well fed while he is cold and starving..
CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN,
and ABC show up to
provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper
next to a video of the ant
in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.
America is stunned by the sharp contrast.
How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper
is allowed to suffer so?
Kermit the Frog appears
on Oprah
with the grasshopper
and everybody cries when they sing,
'It's Not Easy Being Green...'
Occupy the Anthill stages
a demonstration in front of the ant's
house where the news stations film the SEIU group singing,
We shall overcome.
Then Rev. Jeremiah Wright
has the group kneel down to pray for the grasshopper's sake,
while he damns the ants.
President Obama condemns the ant
and blames
President Bush 43, President Bush 41, President Reagan, Christopher Columbus, and the Pope for the grasshopper's plight..
Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid
exclaim in an interview with Larry
King that the ant has
gotten rich off the back ofthe
grasshopper,
and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share.
Finally, the EEOC drafts
the Economic Equity &
Anti-Grasshopper Act
retroactive to the beginning of
the summer.
The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number
of green bugs and,
having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government Green Czar
and given to the grasshopper.
The story ends as we see the grasshopper
and his free-loading friends finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is in, which, as you recall, just happens to be the ant's old house,
crumbles around them because the grasshopper doesn't maintain it.
The ant has disappeared in the snow, never to be seen again.
The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident, and the house, now abandoned, is taken
overby a gang of spiders who terrorize the ramshackle, once prosperous and peaceful, neighborhood.
The entire Nation collapses
bringing the rest
of the free world with it.
MORAL OF THE STORY:
Be careful how you vote.
I've sent this to you because I believe that you are an ant
not a grasshopper!
Make sure that you pass
this on to other ants.
Don't bother sending
it on to any grasshoppers,
they wouldn't
understand it, anyway
Although it costs less than ten cents per ounce to produce, popcorn in movie theaters will typically cost you around $5, which ounce-for-ounce is more than filet mignon! Movie theaters mark up pop corn and many other concessions over 1,000 percent!
Bonus Fact:
It costs a carrier about one-third of a cent to deliver a text message. Users, however, generally pay between 10 to 20 cents per text. That is a markup of over 6,500 percent!
The U.S. didn't institute an income tax until the time of the Civil War, as a temporary measure. It took the Sixteenth Amendment, ratified in 1913, to make it possible for the federal government to tax individuals directly.
But the story of tax day doesn't end there. In 1954, Congress passed nearly 1,000 pages of revision to the Internal Revenue Code. In it, Tax Day would be moved from March 15 to April 15, giving the taxpayer an extra month to recover from Christmas expenses.
Email the Editor
Today's Random Fact:
The federal tax code is now 74,608-page-long. It is 187 times longer than it was a century ago.
From 2010, when Obamacare was passed, to 2014, the tax code grew by nearly 3,000 more pages.
If the tax code continues to grow at the same pace it did over the last century, it will pass 100,000 pages in 2050.
Bonus Fact:
Tax deniers (tax defiers or tax protesters) are people who refuses to pay tax on constitutional or legal grounds.
Tax protesters raise a number of different kinds of arguments, these typically include constitutional arguments, such as claims that the Sixteenth Amendment to the Constitution was not properly ratified or that it is unconstitutional generally, or that being forced to file an income tax return violates the Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination.
These arguments rarely work out for them.
--the ants parable
Why do the groups have to be different species? You also chose "ants" who all work together as one economy for one common community goal, every healthy ant is given a job as a contingent of life. This is socialism.  Socialism we know will fail when faced with competition from capitalism.
        Anyway I have a more applicable story (if it sounds familiar stick with it, it's original). Lets assume these ants act like capialists rather than socialists. 1.5 % of them didn't work through the summer and are now leaching off the rest of the ants (this is about the number of people on welfare now - 4.4 million out of 300 million).  We will also throw out the economic and industrial history of the Ant colony, we will throw out slave labor, child labor, and the rise of organized labor movements.  We will skip to our current era, one of marriage between government and big business, where capitalism has been abandoned for corporatism.
          ...............................................................................................................
           A nice Ant couple, newly married, is excited about opening their own leaf store. They first must jump a parade of colony  regulations. They are disguised as well intentioned, helping out the disabled, protecting the environment, providing for the worker Ant's health. The problem is that there are too many of them, they cost too much, and they are commissioned by the big box leaf store chains. By driving up costs the big box leaf stores can assure that they will have a monopoly on leafs.
         But let’s say the Ant family mortgages their Ant hill and get the start up money to overcome this.  The big box leaf stores control the leaf industry. It is not just through volume but also that their political donations assure that their friend Ants get appointed to the colony leaf inspection agencies. The very Ants who worked for the big box leaf companies will cross over and become a regulator. Ant tax dollars will go to subsidize the big box leaf stores.
         The Ants that pass the laws in Antington D.C. are corrupt. The Big Box Leaf company establishes a lobby in Antington, D.C., which our ant family can't afford to do. They start with a firm of lawyers and former Ant politicians and leaf inspectors. They lobby congressional ants for money for their big box leaf corporation. And they get it. The big box leaf stores are  too large and powerful and control the price and quality of the leafs but also take dollars out of the Ants pocket as an additional subsidy.
So the Ant family has no choice but to get a job at Leaf-Mart. The dream of creating their own leaf store was out of their reach. They now earn a stagnant wage and pay a 25% tax rate.
                       35% of the tax goes to elderly ants.
                       31% goes to discretionary spending and other mandatory services. A large amount of money went to bailing out the banker and corporate ants who had mismanaged their businesses. The same corporate ants who had paid congressional ants to rig the system in their favor had still failed. It might seem like this would be an oportunity for other ants to establish start-ups, but no, the profits of the corporate ants are privatized but the risks are socialized.
                       25% of the tax goes to Army ants. The big box leaf stores have discovered that they can find cheaper leafs in other ant colonies . Some foreign ants do not like the economic arangements and intend to disrupt them. Antington D.C. has deployed the Army ants to protect these economic interests and has handed out no-bid support contracts to their Ant friends. All funded by worker ant tax dollars.  They have also found they can give foreign worker ants fewer rations and have moved the majority of their leaf plants overseas but continue to receive the same tax subsidies locally.
                        9% goes to interest on the debt because the governing ants cant seem to balance a budget.  The governing ants are given millions of ant dollars for election campaigns by the big box leaf companies, are surrounded all day by lobbyists for the big box leaf companies, taken to dinner, given gifts, and when the congressional ants retire the big box leaf company has a cushy high paying job waiting. All in exchange to keep the current marriage between corporate and congressional ants going, and keeping our ant family from establishing their leaf store and taking market share from the big box leaf companies.
                     10% of their tax goes to assist other ants economically, some are disabled, some are handicapped, some are working for it, and some are scamming the system. Many conservative ants focus on this greatly. AntFOX news presses it's viewers to focus on this small number of deadbeat ants rather than the trillions of unconditional funds that are handed out to domestic and foreign corporate ants like the ownership of ANTfox news and it's friends. If they can keep a percentage of the population focused on a group of people that will always be there no matter what is done, it is business as usual in Antington D.C.
                      Finally the greatest tax of all. The income and savings of our ant family is devalued greater than their wage can grow because the governing ants allow special FEDants to print money unregulated and hand it out to who they please. In 2009 these FEDants printed 16 trillion ant dollars and handed it out to corporate and banker ants, 3 trillion to went to corporate and banker ants in foreign colonies. Due to no fault of their own, our Ant family will soon find out that their money is worth half of what it was worth just a couple years earlier.
All our ant family can do is play the game, be followers, and wonder "what happened to this colony, what happened to the Ant dream?".
Interesting way to look at it…
S
The ANT AND THE GRASSHOPPER
This one is a little different....
Two Different Versions ...
Two Different Morals
OLD VERSION
The ant works
hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.
The grasshopper
thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.
Come winter, the ant is warm
and well fed.
The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.
MORAL OF THE OLD STORY:
Be responsible for yourself!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

MODERN VERSION
The ant works hard
in the withering heat and the rain all summer long, building his house
and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant
is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper
calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be
allowed to be warm and well fed while he is cold and starving..

CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN,
and ABC show up to
provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper
next to a video of the ant
in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.
America is stunned by the sharp contrast.

How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper
is allowed to suffer so?

Kermit the Frog appears
on Oprah
with the grasshopper
and everybody cries when they sing,

'It's Not Easy Being Green...'

Occupy the Anthill stages
a demonstration in front of the ant's
house where the news stations film the SEIU group singing,

We shall overcome.

Then Rev. Jeremiah Wright
has the group kneel down to pray for the grasshopper's sake,

while he damns the ants.

President Obama condemns the ant
and blames
President Bush 43, President Bush 41, President Reagan, Christopher Columbus, and the Pope for the grasshopper's plight..

Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid
exclaim in an interview with Larry
King that the ant has
gotten rich off the back ofthe
grasshopper,
and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share.

Finally, the EEOC drafts
the Economic Equity &
Anti-Grasshopper Act
retroactive to the beginning of
the summer.

The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number
of green bugs and,
having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government Green Czar
and given to the grasshopper.

The story ends as we see the grasshopper
and his free-loading friends finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is in, which, as you recall, just happens to be the ant's old house,
crumbles around them because the grasshopper doesn't maintain it.

The ant has disappeared in the snow, never to be seen again.

The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident, and the house, now abandoned, is taken
overby a gang of spiders who terrorize the ramshackle, once prosperous and peaceful, neighborhood.

The entire Nation collapses
bringing the rest
of the free world with it.

MORAL OF THE STORY:

Be careful how you vote in 2012.

I've sent this to you because I believe that you are an ant
not a grasshopper!

Make sure that you pass
this on to other ants.

Don't bother sending
it on to any grasshoppers,
they wouldn't
understand it, anyway

---------Occupy--------

-----------------plan

--------------------

It seems to me that no matter what the size,  government only works for corporations and the top 1%.  The bigger the government, the more corporations benefit. All our polititions are glorified employees of corportations. They are elected with corporate money, romanced by corporate lobbyists, and are given cozy multi-million dollar "historian" jobs when they retire. All in return for crushing mom and pop's and keeping the rich - rich and the poor -poor.  We thought Obama could change the system and we were wrong, seems he decided to "play ball".  Is it so hard to understand why RonPaul is appealing to us?
