French 75

2 oz. Gin
1 oz. simple syrup (or 2 tsp. superfine sugar)
1 oz. lemon Juice
Champagne or other dry sparkling wine

Combine Gin, sugar, and lemon Juice in a Cocktail Shaker filled With ice.
Shake vigorously and Strain into an highball glass with ice.
Fill With Champagne. Garnish With a twist of lemon.
The French 75 was named for the French 75 Howitzer Artillery gun. The gun was adopted on 28 March 1898 under the official name of "Matériel de 75mm Mle 1897".
