Gameplay

The cup is filled with a few ounces of booze (to the bottom of a Solo cup) and placed in the middle of a table. Each player rolls two dice, the player who has the highest number goes first. Players determine if play will go in a clockwise or counterclockwise fashion.

The Starting player rolls the dice. If the Player does not roll a 7, 11, or doubles, they pass the dice to the next player. If they do roll a 7, 11, or doubles, they then select another player ("the drinker") to drink the cup in the middle. As soon as the drinker touches the cup with their hand, the starting player may roll again. If the starting player rolls a 7, 11, or double before the drinker finishes their drink and sets the cup back on the table, then the cup is refilled and the drinker must drink again while the starting player rolls.

If the rolling player touches the dice before the drinker touches the cup, then the rolling player must swap with the drinking player, who now rolls while the starting player drinks.

If the drinker places the empty cup on the table before the roller can roll another 7, 11, or double then the dice are passed to the next player. The second player begins rolling.

At any point, another player ("the hero" or "the rescuer" or ) may "save" the drinker by grabbing the cup and drinking it for the drinker. If the roller is able to roll another 7, 11, or double before the "hero" drinks the cup, then the "hero" becomes the drinker, and must refill the cup and race the roller. Another player will often be the "hero" if the drinker has failed to beat the roller several times in a row.

Three's Drink (Variation A)

Some play that any player rolling a 3 must drink. Usually this is only during normal play and during racing a drinker.

Germaphobe Rules (Variation B)

 Virgin Rules (Variation C)

Home Improvement (Variation D)

Some play that if a player's nail should become bent during the game, only the player themselves, during their turn only, may fix their own nail. This process is called .

Big League Rules (Variation E)

Some groups of speedy drinkers may choose to fill the cups half-way or more.
